Local reports said his wife and their three children also died in the incident.

The family, who were visiting from Barcelona, Spain, had boarded a Bell 206 helicopter operated by New York Helicopters. The aircraft broke apart midair and plunged into the river less than 20 minutes after takeoff. The pilot was also pronounced deceased.

US federal authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
