Sany builds first US excavator

Chinese equipment manufacturer has begun production of excavators in the US. The first machine rolled off its production line in Peachtree City, Georgia on February 27.
The production of the first model - a 21.5 tonne SY215 tracked excavator - was marked by a ceremony attended by Sany America staff and the mayor of Peachtree City, Don Haddix.
"This is a wonderful day for us," said Jack Tang, president of Sany America. "We have worked hard to make this day a reality and we are looking forward to ramping up our assembly lines," he added.
Mayor Haddix added, "Sany America has made a tremendous contribution to our city and country. While so many companies have chosen to outsource production overseas, Sany is one of the few who have brought their manufacturing to the US, and we are honoured to have them here in Peachtree City."
In addition to excavators, Sany America markets concrete pump trucks, port machinery, rough terrain cranes and crawler cranes in North America. Last year it announced it would build a US$ 25 million R&D centre alongside its 400000 ft2 (37175 m2) corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility. When complete, the site will employ 300 hydraulic and mechanical engineers.
