A joint venture between Australian construction firms Clough and Roberts Co has been named as preferred bidder to build the A$1.8 billion (€1.1 billion) Women and Babies Hospital in Perth, Western Australia.

Commissioned by the Western Australian Government, the project will replace the century-old King Edward Memorial Hospital. It will be built within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct in the southern suburb of Murdoch.

The project also includes a major expansion of Osborne Park Hospital, located in the northern suburb of Stirling, and expansion of neonatal services at Perth’s Children’s Hospital.

All parties have signed a letter of intent to move to the final stage of negotiations.

Clough, which is a subsidiary of Italian construction group Webuild, has a 70% stake in the joint venture, while Roberts Co holds 30%.
