Polish material prices fall

Prices for house building materials in Poland fell -6% in December compared to a year ago.

Last month four product groups - thermal insulation, down -3,9%, waterproof insulation, down -2,6%, silicates, down -0,5% and gas concrete, down -0,4% - were cheaper than in November, according to consulting and market research company PMR's latest findings.

Prices of wood-derivative materials, dry interior construction, doors and windows and window-sills remained unchanged while tools and equipment and construction chemicals were +2,2% and +0,4% more expensive respectively.

"Despite the drop in material prices, problems in the financial markets and lending restrictions are set to have a profound effect on Polish housing construction," said PMR's Bartłomiej Sosna, "although overall this sector makes the smallest contribution to construction and assembly output anyway."
