Poland receives gas transmission boost

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has lent Polish natural gas company Gazociągów Przesyłowych Gaz-System PLN 600 million (€ 150 million) to support the extension of the country's transmission network.
The funds will help finance the construction of two sections of the natural gas transmission system in north-west and central Poland, facilitating gas transmission from a planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Baltic Sea port of Swinoujscie.
The project involves building two high pressure sections of gas transmission pipeline with a total length of 441 km. One will run from Szczecin in the north western corner of Poland to the north-eastern city of Gdansk, while the second will run from the central city of Rembelszczyzna to Gustorzyn.
Compressor stations and associated works are also included in the project, which extends natural gas transmission to regions of Poland that have a limited supply. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2014.
