Visitors to italian breaker manufacturer Idromeccanica’s open day in May this year had the chance to see its M range of breakers put through their paces at the Bitonto Quarry, Bari, Italy.

Launched three years ago the range has been updated to provide easy maintenance and low noise emissions. The first model to hit the calcareous rock of the quarry was the 240 kg IMI 26 M, which was mounted on a Benati backhoe loader. Suitable for carriers from 3,5 to 8 tonnes the 26 M features few parts, which according to the company cuts downtime and maintenance requirements. Also on show was the IMI 1010 M. At 1000 kg it is suiting for carriers from 12 to 23 tonnes.

Pride of place in the display however, went to the largest breaker in the range, the IMI 170 M (shown). The 1,8 tonne breaker, suitable for carriers from 21 to 30 tonnes, features a remodelled damping system to keep noise to a minimum during operation.
