The company said construction work has already started at the facility in Minas Gerais state for injectable drugs for the treatment of obesity and other chronic diseases.

Novo Nordisk chief executive Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen announced the investment at an event in the Minas Gerais city Montes Claros, according to Reuters.

The expanded facility will measure 74,000 square metres and is due for completion in 2028.

The factory will produce various products including semaglutide, the active ingredient in anti-obesity drugs Ozempic and Wegovy.
