The City of Grenoble, France is developing a new, 20000 seat stadium and sports complex.

For construction of the foundations Bauer Spezialtiefbau has used a Bauer BG 36 heavy-duty rotary drilling rig. In total, 620 large diameter foundation piles were installed. Of these 185 had a diameter of 770 mm and were installed to a depth of 20 m, 435 had a diameter of 990 mm and were installed to a depth of 24 m. All the piles used earthquake - proof reinforcement, which consisted of 900 tonnes of steel and 9500 m3of concrete.

Prior to commencing foundation construction Bauer put down 535, 12 m deep exploratory boreholes using a Bauer BG 18 continuous flight auger rig. If an obstruction was encountered, 10 m deep boreholes were put down in a bid clear them. Some of these were old foundations from a fort built by Marshal Vauban (1633 to 1707).
