NCC wins rail tunnel contract
25 June 2012
Norwegian contractor NCC has been awarded a €135 million contract to build a 4.8km rail tunnel linking Larvik with Porsgunn, 150km southwest of Oslo.
The contract, awarded by Norwegian National Rail Administration, Jernbaneverket, includes the development of evacuation tunnels, bringing the total tunnel work to 8.8km. Construction will start in August 2012, with a completion deadline of June 2016.
This is the second tunnel project for the Norwegian contractor. NCC Construction worked on a rail tunnel linking Lysaker and Sandvika, outside Oslo, in 2010. The firm is also involved in several road projects in the Oslo area.
