NCC gets 20 year concession

16 February 2010

NCC has won a SEK 1,3 billion (€ 132 million) contract to construct, operate and maintain a 28 km long section of the M50 highway between Mjölby and Motala in Östergötland, Sweden.

Construction is scheduled for completion in August 2013 and NCC will operate the highway for 20 years as part of the concession contract.

Following the award made by the Swedish Road Administration, NCC will start project planning immediately and the contractor expects to start construction this summer.

The project includes the construction of 39 road bridges, eight interchanges and a 620 m long bridge across Skepparpinan in Motala. Of the 28 km of highway, 14 km will comprise four-lane expressway while the remainder will be configured as 2+1 carriageway.

Business area manager at NCC Construction Sweden, Tomas Carlsson said, "We find it encouraging that the Swedish Road Administration has decided to sign outsourcing contracts for total package undertakings since this will advance technological development.

"Outsourcing on a total package basis entails that the lifecycle cost will be optimised and will impact the entire construction process, which means the community will receive more road for money spent," he said.
