Mexico's Farac programme invites bids for third highway package

30 May 2008

Mexico's transport and communications ministry (SCT) will be inviting bids for a third highway package under the federal road re-concession program Farac, according to a local news report.

Known as the northeastern package, this is the third in a group of eight contemplated in the Farac program, the report said.

The construction of two new highways and carrying out repairs on three highways and two international cross border bridges form part of the package.

According to the report the bidding process was delayed from April last year as the SCT monitored other current concessions and analysed market conditions.

It added the tender call for the northeastern package will now be carried out in parallel to the Pacific package, which comprises repairs on three highways and the construction of eight new roads.

In the report, entity undersecretary Óscar de Buen said the SCT does not expect the US slowdown or the rising price of oil and construction materials to delay or suspend Farac projects.
