The facility will be built in two phases and is among the largest privately financed energy infrastructure projects in North America.
Under the agreement, McDermott will prepare engineering, execution planning and pricing for a full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
The project will be led from McDermott’s Houston office, supported by its engineering team in Gurugram, India.
Monkey Island LNG also selected ConocoPhillips’ Optimized Cascade process, with McDermott’s modular train design expected to deliver up to 60% more LNG output per acre compared to conventional layouts, the company said.
Rob Shaul, senior vice president of low carbon solutions at McDermott, said, “Our integrated delivery model, including self-perform construction and a global network of McDermott-owned fabrication yards, positions us to deliver a solution that maximises value while minimising risk.”
Engineering and permitting are due to begin in 2026, with first production targeted for the early 2030s.
