Australian-US equipment producer Makinex has launched the Portable Power Box (PPB), a battery energy storage unit with 6kW output capacity and up to 15kWh of energy storage.

The unit, to be launched at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas in January, offers three 15A power outlets and 2 5V USB outlets. Storage capacity comes from three 48V lithium ion batteries which can be fully charged in 7 hours, either from a 240V mains source of via solar panels.

Other features of the PPB include a robust, IP44-rated frame and RCD and thermal overload protection.

It weighs 163kg or 205kg, depending on configuration, and dimensions are 0.97m (L) by 0.51m (W) by 0.93m (H).

John Stewart, CEO of Makinex, said the PPB was a “huge step” towards renewable portable power for construction; “Construction companies are facing more environmental challenges than ever before - regulatory bodies are tightening restrictions on carbon emissions, and customers are demanding renewable solutions.

“Our future-first tools like the PPB are crucial for businesses, big or small, in the industry - the investment is an accessible and affordable way to lower costs and reduce our environmental impact. It’s a win-win for industry and for the planet.”
