The construction process is underway on the 500MW Fécamp offshore wind project, according to developers EDF Renewables, Edenbridge and Wpd.

The group also recently announced they had awarded a contract to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to supply 71 wind turbines. Subsequently, SGRE said it plans to build a new turbine manufacturing facility in Le Havre this year.

Other major contractors on board for the Fécamp project are Bouygues Construction, Saipem and Boskalis; these companies will be responsible for the foundations of the project.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique, GE Grid Solutions and SDI have been contracted to construct the wind farm’s offshore substation.

French engineering firm RTE will have responsibility for the wind turbine-substation-electricity grid (in Normandy) connections. The company says it will begin its onshore work this month.

EDF Renewables and Edenbridge Inc each hold 35% stakes in the project, while the offshore wind unit of Wpd has the remaining 30% interest.

The wind park is expected to be in operation by 2023; when it will provide for the annual energy consumption of approximately 77,000 people.
