Lemminkäinen acquitted

Lemminkäinen and two of its employees have been cleared of environmental infraction charges relating to the amount of recycled asphalt it used.

The company said that the district court of Tuusula, Finland, acquitted Lemminkäinen and two of its employees this week following a decision in late 2014 by the prosecutor to press charges for an environmental infringement.

The alleged offence was related to quotas for the amount of recycled asphalt used in asphalt production, as defined in the environmental permits of the company’s Sammonmäki asphalt plant.

Lemminkäinen said crushing recycled asphalt for use as raw material for new asphalt is an ecological practice, reducing the environmental hazards compared to asphalt made of virgin materials.
