Latest loaders

Like Engined-Crane Producers, Europe's Loader Crane Manufacturers Have Been rolling out a huge number of new models over the last 12 to 18 months. Most loader cranes sold in Europe are the articulating (knuckle) type, and competition is fierce.

The most prolific in terms of introducing new models is Palfinger, which launched 23 new loader crane modes from 4 to 150 tonne metres at the end of 2004. Around the same time Atlas Terex launched ten new models, to slot into its 36 crane range from 0,47 to 60 tonne metres, while last summer saw Hiab add three 7 to 10 tonne metre cranes to its XS range.

In addition to these three companies and the likes of Denmark's HMF, there are a huge number of loader crane manufacturers based in Italy, many of which are headquartered near Bologna in the Reggio Emilia region. The Italian manufacturers include Amco Veba (which owns F.lli Ferrari), Autogru PM, Benelligru, Cormach, Effer, Fassi and Ferrari International 2.

Fassi celebrated its 40th birthday last year, with the launch of four new mid-range models, and other launches included a 3,5, 22, 43 and 47 tonne metre model from Autogru, Amco Veba's 85 tonne metre VR 85, Effer's light 20EP and F.lli Ferrari's 726. December also saw Denmark's HMF launch the 1244, 1444 and 1643, rated at 13,7, 13,7 and 15,5 tonne metres respectively.
