The September edition of International Construction is now available to download from www.khl.com. An iPad edition of the magazine is also available free from iTunes, which includes additional audio and video content.

In the latest issue:

News: High profile contractors’ CEOs have been convicted and sentenced to jail terms in Brazil’s Petrobras corruption scandal.

Business: Another mega merger in the materials sector as HeidelbergCement announces plans to take over Italcementi.

Economic outlook: Southern Africa has some of the strongest construction growth prospects in the world, despite the current climate of weak commodity prices.

Regional report: Slow progress on major projects and a rout in commodity prices have combined to put the squeeze on South Africa’s embattled construction industry.

High-rise construction: The cutting edge of construction equipment technology is speeding up high-rise construction, making taller and taller buildings viable.

Portable power: Fuel economy is a key issue with compressors and generators. In the genset sector this is driving a move towards hybrid technology, while control systems and telematics are becoming more sophisticated across the board.

Wheeled loaders: Rarely has there been a busier year for wheeled loader launches, with Tier 4 Final/Stage IV engine regulations seeing manufacturers renew their entire ranges.

BC Africa preview: After a successful launch as Bauma Africa in 2013, the exhibition returns to Johannesburg as Bauma Conexpo Africa.

BICES preview: There is a new venue in Beijing for this year’s major Chinese construction equipment exhibition, BICES.

Equipment: In-depth news from Terex Trucks and Vermeer.
