Lafarge exits Italy

21 November 2008

Lafarge has announced plans to sell its businesses in Italy to the Sacci group for € 290 million.

Lafarge has been present in Italy since 1996 and its facilities comprise two cement plants with a total capacity of 1,2 million tonnes per year, along with four cement terminals along the east coast of Italy. It also operates three aggregates quarries and 13 ready-mixed concrete plants in Italy. Last year the businesses had sales of € 116 million and gross profits of € 18 million.

Sacci is a family-owned company based in Rome. It has 550 employees operating four cement plants and 31 ready-mixed concrete plants in Italy.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close by the end of the year.
