Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has be contracted to work on India's longest four-lane highway, the NH6 Great Eastern Road redevelopment project.

The US$ 860 million contract covers 484 km of road development divided into two projects. Both projects have a concession period of 20 years, including a construction period of 30 months.

Both sections of road are currently in a two-lane configuration and have to be widened to four lanes.

Project 1 covers 275 km of road between Amravati and Jalgaon. The development will include 115 km of service road, 18 major bridges, 124 minor bridges, and 22 vehicle underpasses.

Project 2 covers 209 km and connects Jalgaon with the Maharashtra/Gujarat border near Surat. This includes 62 km of service road, 13 major bridges, 131 minor bridges, and 18 vehicle underpasses.

The roads will create a new East-West corridor in India. The projects represent the longest stretches of road development to be offered in Maharashtra on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

The projects will be built by EPC, the construction arm of L&T.
