Komatsu secures US$440m fleet deal for Pakistan metals mine

Japan-based construction and mining OEM Komatsu will supply US$440-million worth of ultra-class mining equipment to the Reko Diq copper and gold mine project in Pakistan under a new agreement starting in 2026.

The deal with US-based metal production company Barrick will send Komatsu machines to the greenfield mine site near Mashki Chah, one of the ‘world’s largest’ undeveloped copper and gold assets.

Reko Diq’s equipment package includes Komatsu 980E-5 haul trucks (manufactured in Peoria, Illinois, US), P&H 4100XPC AC rope shovels (manufactured in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US), PC7000-11 excavators (manufactured in Düsseldorf, Germany), and WE2350-2 electric wheel loaders (manufactured in Longview, Texas, US).

Peter Salditt, president of Komatsu’s Mining Business Division, said, “The scale and complexity of this project demands proven, high-performance equipment, and we are confident our ultra-class haul trucks, electric rope shovels, and other mining machines will meet the challenge.”

To support the project, Komatsu plans to establish a dedicated service entity, Komatsu Pakistan Mining Limited, while also investing further in its regional hub in Dubai.

The deal builds on prior Komatsu fleet deployments at Barrick’s Lumwana copper mine in Zambia and the Nevada Gold Mines joint venture in the United States. In 2023, the two companies signed a global framework agreement to expand cooperation.
