Hochtief secures 12-school PPP contact

A consortium led by German contractor Hochtief Solutions has been granted a 30-year contract to plan, finance, build and maintain 12 schools in Alberta Province, Canada.

The contract, valued at CAD 348.7 million (US$ 355 million) and with an investment volume of CAD 97.9 million (US$ 100 million), is on the basis of a public-private partnership (PPP).

The ABC Schools Partnership, in which Hochtief - through its subsidiaries - and Concert Infrastructure, an infrastructure fund, each have a 50% shareholding, will bring in Hochtief group companies Turner Construction and Clark Builders to provide all construction services.

The 12 schools, mainly in southern Alberta, will be built over a 22-month period, and will begin to operate in summer 2014, providing educational facilities to 6,300 pupils.

This contract is Hochtief’s third collaboration with the government of Alberta Province. It follows one for 10 schools in Alberta Province granted in 2010, and the contract for Northeast Anthony Henday Drive - part of the beltway around Edmonton – granted in May this year.

With this new project Hochtief Solutions will be responsible for a total of 123 PPP schools with over 90,000 pupils.
