21 July 2025

Infrastructure firm Hochtief has chalked up two contract awards to build university buildings in Germany.
It will construct a research building and an events centre in Krefeld for the University of Duisberg-Essen for a total value of €130 million.
The new research centre in Essen is a five-storey building with a 4,100-square-metre laboratory area for work in the fields of nano- and material sciences, energy, water, microbiome, protein, environmental and chemical research.
It will be equipped with a large-scale photovoltaic system, e-mobility facilities, and bicycle parking spaces.
Construction work will begin in late summer 2025 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2028.
Meanwhile, Hochtief will convert the former boiler house on the Mies van der Rohe campus in Krefeld into a centre for concerts and special events.
Hochtief is responsible for the entire planning services across all project phases and will be commissioned in stages.
