Hermes Airports awards €170m contract for Cyprus airport expansions to Bouygues-led consortium

Hermes Airports, the operator of Cyprus’ two international airports, has awarded a €170 million contract for the second phase of expansion works at Larnaka and Pafos airports to a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International and including Iacovou Brothers (Constructions) Ltd.

Bouygues Bâtiment International’s share of the contract is valued at €119 million.

The project aims to increase passenger capacity and improve operational efficiency at both airports in response to rising air traffic. Once completed, Larnaka airport will be able to accommodate 12.4 million passengers annually, while Pafos airport’s capacity will increase to 5 million.

The expansion at Larnaka, scheduled to take 30 months, includes a three-storey extension to the eastern side of the terminal to enhance screening facilities, alongside the expansion of retail and food and beverage areas. A new pier with walk-in boarding and arrival gates, as well as additional aircraft parking stands, will also be constructed.

At Pafos, the works are expected to take 27 months and will involve an extension to the existing terminal, redeveloping key areas including border control, security, and baggage handling. The commercial zone will also be expanded and redesigned, while the southern taxiway will be extended to improve operational flexibility.

The development is designed to support future passenger growth sustainably and incorporates features aimed at achieving BREEAM certification. Security facilities will align with the latest European standards.

Bouygues Bâtiment International brings previous experience from its involvement in the initial development of the two airports, completed in 2009. The company, which has a stake in the airport concession, is delivering the project through its airport infrastructure arm, Bouygues Construction Airports.

The Cyprus project follows Bouygues’ recent involvement in the award of the Paris-Beauvais Airport modernisation contract, where it is part of the Bellova consortium alongside Egis, Serena, and Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur.
