Healthy business for Skanska
08 July 2014
Skanska has been appointed to work on two separate hospital projects, one in Sweden and one in the UK.
In Sweden, the firm has been contracted by Locum to rebuild and expand the Södertälje hospital in a deal worth SEK968 million (€105 million).
The project includes a 22,000m2 emergency hospital, including a delivery ward. In addition, an existing 8,000m2 building will be converted into care units with 120 single rooms.
Construction will start this summer, and is scheduled for completion in May 2018.
In the UK, meanwhile, a consortium led by Skanska has been appointed preferred bidder for the New Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
The PPP (public-private partnership) contract includes design, build, finance, operations and maintenance responsibilities. The contract is said to be worth around £140 million (€175 million), but financial close on the deal is not expected until early 2015.
In the consortium with Skanska is OCS, who will provide soft facilities management services. Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2015, with completion in the summer of 2017.
