Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has been awarded an INR1783.42 crore (US$ 274 million) contract to construct a 36 km stretch of road from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The route between Ramban and Banihal in Jammu & Kashmir province includes 3 km of tunnels. It is part of phase-II of the country’s National Highways Development Project (NHDP) and forms part of National Highway 44 (NH44).

The road is part of a project to better connect Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, to the rest of the country. It will pass through difficult terrain and replace an existing narrow road between Ramban and Banihal, cutting travel times.

HCC president & CEO of engineering & construction, Arun Karambelkar, said, “We are pleased to win this important contract from NHAI. This project not only allows us to further expand our presence in road related business segments but also gives us immense pride as this highway will contribute to the infrastructure growth of our nation.”
