Qatar Railways Company has awarded a US$ 3.3 billion contract to build tunnels and stations for a new metro line in Doha, Qatar.

Contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured the order along with joint venture partners Aktor, Yapi Merkezi Insaat, STFA Group and Al Jaber Engineering. L&T said its part of the contract was worth US$ 740 million.

The joint venture partners will design and construct the 11 km Gold Line of the Doha Metro project – a twin tunnel line with nine underground stations.

This is the latest in a string of large contract awards that Qatar Railways has made for the new US$ 36 billion metro network in the capital.
