Eiffage consortium wins Ariane 6 rocket contract

An Eiffage-led consortium has been awarded a contract to build the launch complex for the Ariane 6 rocket – the European Space Agency’s next generation launch vehicle – which is due to enter service in 2020.
The project, worth €200 million, will be carried out by the consortium named Eclair6, which is made up of Eiffage Génie Civil, Eiffage Route, Clemessy, SEH, Axima and ICOP.
The contract was awarded by Centre National d'etudes Spatiales (CNES).
The complex will be built at the French and European spaceport near Kourou in French Guiana.
The project comprises a launch pad and its two flame trenches, the 6,000-tonne, 90m-high mobile service gantry and a launcher assembly building.
The development will involve 50,000m³ of concrete, 7,000 tonnes of reinforcement, 400,000m³ of earth and 7,500 tonnes of structural steel.
Work will begin immediately, with the project scheduled for completion in October 2018.
