Dublin tram line gets €150 million boost

A new connection between the red and green lines on the tram system in Dublin, Ireland, is to be supported by a €150 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The 5.6km line will be added to the LUAS tram network, including 13 additional stations with 53m platforms, a new depot and 10 new trams.
With a total project budget of €368 million, the new LUAS link is planned to connect the existing Green Line terminus at St Stephen’s Green to Broombridge Station, providing tram services every three minutes during the peak period.
EIB said construction of the new link was underway, with the first tram services scheduled to start at the end of 2017.
The borrower for the EIB loan is the National Treasury Management Agency, which is responsible for borrowing on behalf of the Irish Government. The National Transport Authority and Railway Procurement Agency are responsible for project implementation.
