Cummins to show Stage IV final engine

The Cummins display at Bauma will reflect the company’s full line of engines, from the 37 kW QSF2.8 to the 3,130 kW QSK95, which is believed to be the largest engine ever exhibited at the show.

New units will include the 63 – 98 kW QSF3.8, which complies with forthcoming Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions legislation. To achieve this, the engine uses cooled EGR and SCR, but does not require a DPF.

Cummins said the new 3.8 litre engine offers similar fuel efficiency to the Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4-comliant QSB3.3, despite an extra 0.5 litres of displacement. This gives it a higher peak torque and maximum power rating.

A new service from Cummins being unveiled at the show is its particulate filter replacement programme. DPFs require cleaning after 5,000 engine hours, and the scheme is designed to minimise machine downtime by replacing the existing filter, rather than waiting for it to be serviced and returned. The programme falls under the Cummins Recon service exchange scheme.
