Copenhagen Metro deal for Salini Impregilo

29 October 2014

Italian-based contractor Salini-Impregilo has agreed a €240 million contract extension with Copenhagen Metro to complete the Cityringen project.

The scheme, which is worth a total of €1.85 billion, has involved the creation of a 17km rail route over the past three years.

Salini’s deal with Metroselskabet will help complete 17 stations for what will be a fully-automated service carrying 130 million passengers a year.

The company is engaged in a number of other major metro lines including schemes in Milan, Rome, Riyadh, Doha, San Francisco and Sydney.

However, the contractor has encountered issues with one of its largest schemes. It is in dispute over one of its contracts involving a Metro service within Santiago, Chile.

Earlier this month, the firm had its contract cancelled for the deal due to delays on the project.

Salini has responded that it had been tackling unforeseen issues surrounding the project, including archaeological finds, as well as dealing with providing appropriate health and safety measures.
