The work is part of the airport’s wider $11 billion capital improvement programme.

The contract includes the full reconstruction of Taxiway F1 and the construction of a new Taxiway W, as well as resurfacing work on Runway 1R-19L. Granite will carry out grooving, striping, lighting and signage improvements, along with drainage upgrades and the installation of new runway status lights.

About 185,000 tons of asphalt will be sourced from Granite’s Santa Clara, California plant.

Pre-construction is expected to begin in mid-2025, with major airfield work scheduled between March and November 2026.

The project is one of several Granite has taken on under the wider SFO programme, which includes terminal renovations, new utilities, shoreline protections, and power infrastructure. In May, Granite began a $26 million rehabilitation of Taxiways Z and S. It also completed a $60 million realignment of Taxiways Delta and Tango in 2024.

The airport’s capital programme runs through 2030 and is focused on improving operational safety, capacity, and long-term climate resilience.
