Contractor’s collapse delays Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium expansion
13 October 2023
The collapse of contractor Buckingham Group means that the upper tier of Liverpool FC’s Anfield Road Stand will remain closed for the rest of 2023.
The club’s stadium is undergoing an £80 million (€92.6 million) increase in capacity by 7,000 to 61,000.
Following Buckingham’s collapse, Liverpool engaged contractor Rayner Rowen Group to finish the work.
Originally, the expansion was due to be complete by the start of this season but the upper area of the stand will now remain closed until 2024.
Following Buckingham Group’s collapse in September, Austrian contractor Strabag announced that it had hired over 15 members of the company’s senior staff to establish a new building unit. They included Simon Wild and Andy Dixon, appointed joint managing directors, and Ian Burford, director of the new building unit.
