Contract for US$ 1 billion Texas solar project signed
24 July 2012
Utility company CPS Energy has outlined plans for the largest solar power project in US - a US$ 1 billion development in San Antonio, Texas.
CPS and South Korean contractor OCI Solar Power have signed the 25-year power purchase deal to develop 400 MW of solar energy - enough electricity for nearly 70000 local households.
CPS said the new plant would catapult Texas into the top five US solar producing states. As well as the US$ 1 billion construction investment, the project will see a US$ 100 million manufacturing facility built in San Antonio.
According to the contract, members of a consortium brought together by OCI Solar Power will produce components for solar power generation such as modules, trackers and inverters in San Antonio to supply the North American market.
The main manufacturer in the consortium is Nexolon America, a subsidiary of South Korean solar panel component manufacturer Nexolon.
