The event last year was from London to Paris

A charity cycling event for members of the construction and built environment sector will be held for the second time, with a route this year that will see participants travel from the UK to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Brussels, Belgium.

The bike ride will take place from 12 to 16 September, 2018, and is in aid of Action Medical Research. The UK-based charity, which was founded in 1952, raises money for research into diseases that affect babies, children and young people. It is currently funding over 65 projects at leading hospitals, universities and specialist centres across the UK.

Called Ziggurat, the bike event’s partners include Glider Technology, with its GliderBIM online software platform “for BIM Level 2 delivery and beyond”, Brett construction and building materials group, and Grafton Group, distributor of building materials operating in the merchanting markets in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium, in the DIY retailing market in Ireland, and in the mortar manufacturing market in the UK.

Ziggurat is also being supported by contractors such as Mace and Willmott Dixon, and CLOCS, which brings the construction logistics industry together for the management of work-related road risk. Construction Europe and its parent company KHL are backing the ride as well.

Industry firms are supporting the charity ride

The inaugural event last year was from London, UK, to Paris, France. The 2018 Ziggurat route takes in London, Amsterdam and Brussels.

The organisers promise that with varied terrain and a friendly route profile, the ride will be accessible for cyclists of all abilities and experience. With more than two days spent riding in the Netherlands, cyclists will experience “the amazing cycling infrastructure and positive cycling behaviour that the Dutch are famed for”.

The ride will culminate in a celebratory dinner in Brussels, before returning to the UK by Eurostar.

All accommodation is included, in 4-star hotels, as well as transport by ferry and Eurostar, as well as all meals. It also includes the support of experienced trip leaders, drivers and mechanics.

More details of the Ziggurat event can be found at www.action.org.uk/ziggurat.
