Collapse sends 20 to hospital

About 20 people were reported injured and sent to area hospitals on Friday at a casino construction site in Cincinnati when a metal beam fell on workers who were pouring concrete on the second floor of the site. The beam caused the structure's floor to buckle and collapse and the workers fell to the second floor. Luckily, no one was under the collapse.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.

The casino is being developed by Detroit businessman Dan Gilbert's Rock Gaming in partnership with Caesar's Entertainment, according to reports. The $400-million casino is located at Broadway Commons in Cincinnati.

According to reports, the same development team was behind a casino project in downtown Cleveland where a garage partially collapsed on Dec. 16, 2011. A 60-foot by 60-foot second-level section of the parking deck gave way while concrete was being poured. No one was injured.

Workers were spreading concrete on corrugated steel for part of what would become the second floor in the main casino building when one corner collapsed, transforming a roughly 30-foot-by-30-foot horizontal surface into a slide toward the collapsed corner, reports said.
