US-based construction company Clayco is to build a $5 billion electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant for automaker Rivian in Stanton Springs, Georgia.

Jacobs will act as engineer of record on the 1,800-acre complex, while Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is architect on the project.

Rivian, founded in 2009, produces an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) and pickup truck based on a ‘skateboard’ format that other companies can adapt and that can support future vehicles.

The new plant is expected to create around 7,500 jobs and is expected to begin production in 2026.
