Cimic wins final stage of Australian roads project

CPB Contractors has won the contract to complete the third and final stage of the A$1.12 billion (US$ 843 million) NorthLink roads project in Western Australia.
The company, a subisidary of Spanish-controlled Cimic Group, will construct the A$175 million (US$ 132 million)northernmost section of the highway, between Ellenbrook and Mulchea.
The A$417 million (US$ 314 million) second stage of the project was recently awarded to a joint venture group of BCG Contracting and Laing O’Rourke.
Following the award of the Stage 3 contract, Australia’s transport minister Bill Marmion said the completion of the NorthLink project would offer a continuous connection from Perth Airport to Muchea, some 50 km to the north.
He said, "The final section involves construction of a free-flowing dual carriageway between Ellenbrook and Muchea. Safety issues will be addressed at four of the state's most dangerous intersections, with more than 150 kilometres of road safety barriers to protect vehicle occupants and separate oncoming traffic.”
He added, "This project will not only create safer communities by reducing traffic on local roads, it will connect those communities through the including of separate pedestrian and cycle paths."
