China Railway Group’s 10th Engineering Group has won a contract to build a section of railway line and related projects in Chile.

The work, for Chile’s state-run railway company, Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE), involves the construction of five 600m-long train avoidance lines in Santiago, as well as ancillary and six independent technical lines.

The project also includes detailed design, material procurement, and construction of railway power, communications, and signalling systems.

China Railway Group said the contract is worth approximately US$72.8 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to last 600 days.

It is the contractor’s fourth project with EFE to date, having become the first Chinese company to receive the Chilean National Railways Quality Project Award in 2022.
