China adds extra US$ 14.5 billion to infrastructure spend in 2009

China's Government has announced it wil spend an extra CNY 100 billion (US$ 14.5 billion) on key projects in the fourth quarter of this year, according to state news agencies.

About CNY 28 billion (US$ 4.06 billion) has been allocated to railways, roads and airport infrastructure, with CNY 15 billion (US$ 2.18 billion) for railways, CNY 5 billion (US$ 2.18 billion) for highways, CNY 5 billion (US$ 2.18 billion) for rural roads, and CNY 3 billion (US$ 726 million) for the country's central and western airports.

Railways projects include the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the Beijing-Shijiazhuang line, the Baotou-Xi'an coal railway, and the Guiyang-Guangzhou and Nanning-Guangzhou railways.

Airport investments include new airports in Kunming, Chongqing, Nanning, and Urumqi, Shangri-La, Xishuangbanna, Zhongwei and Guyuan.
