Chicago Fire FC reveals stadium renders for US$650m development
21 July 2025
Chicago Fire FC has released new renderings of its planned US$650 million stadium, part of a wider privately funded development in the South Loop area of downtown Chicago.

Designed by US-based Gensler, the stadium incorporates exposed steel, brick and glass elements intended to reflect the city’s industrial heritage. The plans also include an open canopy roof, plaza spaces, and riverwalk integration. The 22,000-seat venue will serve as an anchor for The 78, a 62-acre mixed-use district under development along the Chicago River.
The stadium is being purpose-built for football (soccer); Chicago Fire FC plays in the US’ Major League Soccer (MLS), the highest tier of competition in the country.
According to the club, the new stadium will feature 50 suites, more than 3,500 club seats, a 2,000-capacity safe-standing supporter section, and over 500 loge seats. In addition to MLS matches, the venue is expected to host concerts, community events and other sporting fixtures.
The project is led by team owner Joe Mansueto and will not use public funding.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, pending permitting, with completion targeted for the 2028 MLS season. A general contractor has not yet been announced.
