Wolfgang Burget, Managing director of Liebherr Emtec, is chairing the 2012 CECE congress.

The CECE Congress, which takes place in Berlin from 24 to 26 October, will offer an insight into the core technical topics affecting the industry including emissions regulation and energy efficiency.

Opening the event will be Wolfgang Burget, managing director of Liebherr Emtec, and the technical briefings - including panel discussions between senior industry figures - will take place on 26 October.

For the first of the briefing sections Günter Hähn, member of the board of management at Wirtgen, will focus on the lessons learned from the implementation of Stage IIIB engines in Europe.

Engine emissions were and will continue to be a key issue for the construction equipment industry, and Mr Hähn will share his thoughts on what went right or wrong with compliance with the current phase of legislation.

A panel discussion on a single European road safety certificate for mobile machinery will follow, with speakers including Martin Lehner, deputy CEO of Wacker Neuson.

The second part of the technical briefing will consist of two panels covering environmental issues. Robert Laux, vice president of engineering at Bomag (part of Fayat Group), and Martin Gassner, representing the municipality of Zurich, will speak, among others, about local air quality and retrofitting construction equipment.

A second panel will focus on the voluntary four pillar approach to energy efficiency as a solution for CO2 emissions - another key issue for construction equipment.

Martin Herrenknecht, founder and chairman of the board of the specialist tunnelling machine company Herrenknecht, will be one of the main speakers at the plenary session of the CECE Congress on 25 October in Berlin, while the long list of high-profile presenters at the CECE Congress also includes Peter Marsh, the Financial Times' manufacturing editor, and David Phillips of Off-Highway Research.
