CE Barometer for May: Almost half expect business levels to be higher in a year

Premium Content

The CE Barometer survey for May was undertaken during the first three weeks of June.

Construction professionals across Europe participated in this month’s CE Barometer survey.

As we approach the midway mark of the year, the CE Barometer has recorded mixed outcomes every month. Despite the challenges and difficulties encountered this year, May has received the lowest number of responses indicating worse business conditions.

In January, 20% of the responses indicated worse business conditions compared to the previous month, while only 10.8% reported a decline from April to May.

Regarding business levels in May, the majority of respondents (70.3%) reported that business levels were the same as last month while only a small percentage (18.9%) reported an increase.

Looking ahead to a year, almost half (48.6%) expect business levels to be higher in a year. This is encouraging and is a small increase in the responses from last month’s barometer.

Compared to the previous year, 43.2% reported that business levels are worse. This is still disappointing to hear but is a slight improvement on April’s barometer response of 50%.

It’s encouraging to note that, although business levels have decreased compared to last year, there has been a slight increase in the number of individuals reporting better or unchanged business conditions.
