An 80:20 joint venture between UK contractor Carillion and Qatar Building Company has won a US$ 618 million contract for a real estate development in Qatar's capital, Doha.
The contract, which is worth US$ 495 million to Carillion, involves the construction of a mixed-use retail, commercial, residential and leisure development over a 31 ha (0.3 km2) area in downtown Doha.
The project was awarded by developer Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
Carillion chief executive John McDonough said the contract was the company's first in Qatar.
"We are delighted to have been selected to deliver this prestigious project, which will make a major contribution to the regeneration of the centre of Doha. We look forward to working with Msheireb Properties to deliver a visionary solution that will meet the high standards of sustainability that have been set for this transformational development."
