Bouygues has won a QAR 4.75 billion (US$ 1.4 billion) contract to build a massive real estate project in Doha in Qatar on behalf of Barwa Financial District, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate.

Situated in Doha's new West Bay business district, the project involves the construction of nine office buildings of between 18 and 52 storeys in height, a 400 room 5-star hotel, a shopping centre, conference venue and mosque as well as parking and infrastructure.

The contract gives Bouygues 42 months to complete the project, which will be constructed in collaboration with Midmac Contracting Co and Aljaber Engineering, both of Qatar. The company already anticipates the project will require 6000 construction workers at its peak as well as the use of 17 tower cranes.

Chairman and CEO of Bouygues, Yves Gabriel said, "This contract is excellent news for Bouygues Construction. In the current economic environment, it enables us to improve our visibility abroad and become a major player in a high-growth area."
