Boskalis awarded €111 m Hornsea 2 contract
01 May 2019
Royal Boskalis Westminster has announced it has won a cable installation contract for the UK’s Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm.
The contract, awarded by Ørsted Wind Power and said to be valued at over €111 million, will include the laying of three export cable circuits, with a total length of some 380 km.
The scope of the contract includes the preparation of the cable route – comprising a geophysical survey, the clearance of obstructions and seabed levelling through dredging.
Boskalis will also utilise horizontal directional drilling over a distance of some 300 m, to cross the sea defence of Horseshoe Point in Yorkshire.
The company said it will need to deploy a number of specialist vessels for the project, including a trailing suction hopper dredger and multiple cable-laying vessels. One of its latest construction vessels, capable of pulling a plough able to withstand 200 tonnes of continuous pull, will also be used.
The Hornsea 2 wind farm, located 90 km off the UK coast, will ultimately comprise 165 turbines, with a maximum capacity of 1.4 GW.
