Germany’s Beumer Group sees enormous potential for growth at its recently created Conveying & Loading Systems (CL Systems) division, which supplies raw material conveyor delivery systems for industries including mining and cement.
The division currently represents around 10% of Beumer’s business, but Dr Andreas Echelmeyer, director of the division, speaking at Bauma, said that it could be the company’s largest in the future as demand increases for automatic conveying systems to replace traditional methods such as truck transport.
“The market potential is huge”, he said, “Truck transport is not only financially wasteful, but also not environmentally friendly. I believe that we are a technological leader, but still relatively unknown. So we see that the opportunity is huge.” He said the division could double its sales within three years, “at least”.
The company’s projects are dominated by installations for the mining and cement industries – representing 80% of the division’s activities – and contracts are valued up to €100 million, although typical jobs are in the €10 to €30 million range.
Recent projects include a conveying system for Thai cement producer TPI Polene Public Company. The installation comprised eight belt conveyors covering a distance of more than 6 km to transport crushed limestone from a quarry to a blending plant.
In Indonesia, meanwhile, the division supplied a 7.6 km conveyor system for Cemingo Gemilang to transport material between a quarry and a plant.
The CL Division was created six months ago to spearhead the company’s efforts to market material conveying systems. Beumer has around 30 subsidiary companies, and Dr Echelmeyer said the division created a central point of knowledge within the business that would help the subsidiaries to win and implement projects.
