Bauer Lebanon Foundations has used a HBM 4 and a TR 17 vibrator during construction of the country’s 400 kV Ksara Substation for Siemens.

The project is designed to help satisfy energy demands in Lebanon through interconnecting its electric grid with neighbour Syria’s electric grid through a 400 kV transmission network, allowing an exchange of energy with Syria and the rest of the EIJST countries.

The EIJST interconnection project is aimed at interconnecting the electrical power systems of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Turkey. The operational studies for the interconnection of Egypt-Jordan and then for: Egypt-Jordan-Syria-Turkey were financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

At the Ksara Substation Bauer Lebanon Foundations carried out soil improvement works, all earthworks - excavation, forming of the excavation pit, cable channels, and back filling with 6800 tons of gravel around the footings.

The soft, waterlogged soil was “best tackled”, said a company spokesman, with the bottom feed technique. The HBM 4 and TR 17 vibrator installed 1415 stone columns.

An additional 1800 m² of geotextile was installed to form a cushioning layer, further stabilising the soil. For dewatering, 880 mm drainage columns were drilled with a Bauer BG 18.
