During the National Construction Industry Forum (NCIF), a platform designed to facilitate collaboration and dialogue among key stakeholders in the construction sector, members recognised a unique opportunity for reform.

It was announced in a press release that members unanimously agreed to develop a Building and Construction Industry Blueprint to address these challenges.

The Blueprint is said to outline a clear pathway for the sector to collaborate on bringing about sustainable change, particularly regarding industry culture. It will identify and prioritise the key challenges facing the industry and develop a staged work plan for the NCIF to consider appropriate solutions.

The goal of this initiative is to create lasting, tangible change within the industry. The NCIF members are said to have concurred that genuine long-term change must be driven by the building and construction industry itself, with support from the government.

In the coming months, NCIF members will convene to develop the Blueprint, with a target timeline of six months for its completion. NCIF Chair and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Senator Murray Watt, stated that the Blueprint will highlight the progress achievable when key industry partners work together.

“The building and construction industry is vital, it is the second largest contributor to Australia’s economic growth and delivers nearly 1 in 10 jobs,” Minister King said.

“It supports other industries through major infrastructure development, facilitates our sovereignty through the delivery of our defence capabilities and provides the type of Australia we want through home building and the delivery of our transition to renewable energy.”
