AT-PAC targets major European expansion

AT-PAC, the U.S.-based scaffolding specialist and a division of Umdasch Industrial Solutions, is finalizing its strategy to implement a significant expansion across Europe, with multiple new branches set to open in the coming months.

“We’re in the latter stages of opening several branches across Europe, which will strengthen our position and bring us closer to customers in key markets,” Paolo Zumaglini, CEO of Umdasch Industrial Solutions, told SA during Bauma.

AT-PAC has 18 branch locations globally, including an established presence in the UK and Netherlands, inherited from its pre-acquisition footprint. By 2026, the company hopes to have opened 15 additional locations, nearly doubling its size.

A dedicated branch in Sweden has been established, and an entity in Germany is planned to launch later this year. Additional locations in Italy, Poland, France, and Norway are currently in development.

“Holland was our foundational branch in Europe,” Josh Dundon, AT-PAC CEO, told SA. “We’re building on that legacy by establishing new legal entities across the region to support a clear and focused market presence under the AT-PAC brand.”

Regional markets

While Europe appears to be gaining momentum after a period of economic stagnation, AT-PAC’s leadership remains cautious about market conditions elsewhere.

“We still have stagnation in Germany, Austria in France,” Dundon said.

Looking at North America, Zumaglini points out that a handful of large U.S. construction projects have been delayed due to a mix of high interest rates, inflation concerns and ongoing political uncertainty, putting a pause on activity.

“The uncertainty is the biggest challenge,” Zumaglini said. “It’s not that projects have been canceled, but many are on hold as investors wait to see how economic conditions develop.”

In contrast, the Middle East and Asia are strong performers, according to the company. AT-PAC as recently expanded its presence in Southeast Asia through the acquisition of a Malaysia-based supplier.

Production diversification

Currently, AT-PAC scaffolding systems are manufactured in China, but the company has begun diversifying its production footprint. Manufacturing is being conducted in India and the Middle East, and the company has longer-term plans to include Europe and North America into the mix to support regional delivery and reduce supply chain risk.

Zumaglini confirmed that AT-PAC will continue to operate as Umdasch’s dedicated scaffolding brand, with plans to grow both independently and in collaboration with Doka. “We’ll continue to leverage internal synergies, particularly in engineering and project delivery, while maintaining a clear distinction between the brands,” he said.

The group is also open to expanding its industrial portfolio over time to include new scaffolding-related products or services that support the full lifecycle of infrastructure and industrial projects.

“We have clear targets,” Zumaglini said. “Our number one target is definitely North America where we have our legacy, but immediately afterwards is Europe.”
