Italian-based contractor Astaldi has been appointed to two key roadbuilding contracts worth a total of €100 million.

The main project involves construction of a new section of the S-8 expressway in Poland, as well as completion of the Romanian Nadlac-Arad motorway linking the country with the Hungarian border.

Its Polish scheme, valued at €80 million, is for the design and construction of 7km of three-lane dual-carriageway. This has been commissioned by the Polish General State Roads and Motorways Directorate and is expected to be completed over the next two and a half years.

It is being carried out as a joint venture with Polish firm Pbdim, with which it is also involved with a major €800 million contract for a Warsaw Metro line and €320 million Lodz railway project in Poland.

Astaldi’s work in Romania consists of an extension to initial building being carried out by the firm on the second phase of the Nadlac-Arad scheme. This is scheduled to be completed within eight months.
